Students of selected psychology and computer science programs at Goethe University have the opportunity to develop interdisciplinary skills in the area of AI in Education beyond their studies through various certificate programmes. The certificate programmes are designed as Microdentials. They provide students with qualifications that are not or only partially part of their study programme. These can be completed as voluntary additional work beyond the actual Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme.
The Department of Educational Psychology at Goethe University offers a new Certificate Program “ALI for M.Sc. Psychology Students: AI in Education” to M.Sc. Psychology students.
- Target group for the program?
Students of M.Sc. Psychology at the Institute of Psychology at Goethe University.
- What is the program about?
The focus of this certificate program is to enhance students’ knowledge and competences in the field of AI in Education.
- How to earn the certificate?
To earn the certificate, you must enrol in at least two courses (at least 8 CP, 1 of the courses is extracurricular) that cover topics on AI in Education and hand in a comprehensive portfolio task. For the Summer term 2025, the following courses are dedicated to students interested in earning credit for the certificate. The list of eligible courses will be expanded in the future.
- Seminar “Design and Development of Intelligent Tutoring Systems” (Dr. Denis Federiakin) (4 CP) (extracurricular course, cannot be used for the masters program). In the seminar students will gain practical experience in the analysis of the psychological assumptions underlying the design and development of Intelligent Tutoring Systems as well as in development and programming of statistical and AI models used in the creation of Intelligent Tutoring Systems using real-world data.
- Seminar „AI-based, personalized feedback to improve self-regulated learning: potentials and limitations“ (Prof. Dr. Garvin Brod) (4 CP) offered additionally in the Module “PsyMSc3A Lernen in unterschiedlichen Bildungskontexten”. In the seminar students will explore the effectiveness of AI-based, personalized feedback to improve children’s self-regulated learning. In particular, learn basic theories of good feedback and gain an insight into how current large language models work and how they can be used effectively. Later, students will practically test existing application with children.
- What is the final examination format?
Upon registration, we will provide you with Portfolio tasks covering the elements of the certificate program including a comprehensive reflection. - What is the language of participation?
The currently eligible courses are taught in English; the portfolio task should be completed in English as well. - What will I receive upon the completion of the program?
Participants will receive a Microcredential Certificate of program completion (8 CP) awarded by the Institute of Psychology. - How to apply?

The Department of Educational Psychology at Goethe University offers a new Certificate Program on „Introduction to Artificial Intelligence in Education“ to Bachelor students of the Department of Computer Science (B.Sc. Informatik).

Bachelor students from the Department of Computer Science at Goethe University.
• What is the program about?
The focus of the proposed certificate will cover the basics of educational psychology and will help students gain a better understanding of the interconnectedness of technological, psychological, and ethical issues concerning the development and use of AI-based systems in education.
• How to earn a certificate?
Complete the following courses corresponding to summative 9 CP:
• PsyBSc 15 Basismodul Pädagogische Psychologie (Vorlesung) (4 CP)
• PsyBSc 15 „Psychological perspectives on artificial intelligence in education: an introduction“ (Seminar) (4 CP)
• Extracurricular element (courses of choice from the proposed online learning opportunities) (1 CP)
• What is the final examination format?
Portfolio tasks covering all the material studied.
• What is the language of the courses?
Courses are taught in German and English languages.
• What will I receive upon the completion of the program?
Participants will receive a Microcredential Certificate of program completion (9 CP) awarded by the Institute of Psychology.
