Politikwissenschaft, insbesondere Internationale Beziehungen und Regional Governance

zum 01.10.2014 zu besetzen.

Die künftige Stelleninhaberin bzw. der künftige Stelleninhaber soll in den internationalen Beziehungen und der Regionalismusforschung ausgewiesen sein. Sie/Er sollten einen Forschungsschwerpunkt in mindestens einem der folgenden Themenbereiche haben: Politische Ökonomie in regionaler Perspektive; Prozesse regionaler Integration und Sicherheitskooperation; Interne und externe Faktoren des Aufbaus stabiler Post-Konfliktordnungen; Menschenrechte als Thema der Innen- und Außenpolitik; Interne und externe Faktoren der Stabilisierung autoritärer und/oder demokratischer Ordnungen; Ressourcenkonflikte als Thema der Innen- und Außenpolitik. Eine regionale Schwerpunktsetzung auf Subsahara-Afrika, Lateinamerika oder Südasien wird vorausgesetzt.

Sie/Er soll das Fach in Forschung und Lehre in den politikwissenschaftlichen Bachelor- und Master-Studiengängen der Fakultät für Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaften sowie interdisziplinären Studienanteilen (ISA) vertreten.

Neben einer hervorragenden Befähigung zur wissenschaftlichen Arbeit, ausgewiesen durch einschlägige Publikationen, wird auf die didaktische Eignung besonderer Wert gelegt.

Die HSU/UniBw H bietet für Offizieranwärter/innen und Offiziere ein wissenschaftliches Studium mit Bachelor- und Masterabschlüssen an, das mit verkürzten Regelstudienzeiten nach dem Trimestersystem durchgeführt und durch interdisziplinäre Studienanteile (ISA) ergänzt wird.

Es wird erwartet, dass der/die Stelleninhaber/in die Studierenden auf berufliche Tätigkeiten innerhalb und außerhalb der Bundeswehr, die die Anwendung wissenschaftlicher Erkennt­nisse und Methoden erfordern, vorbereitet und darüber hinaus Aufgaben auf dem Gebiet der Weiterbildung sowie Lehrangebote im Bereich ISA übernimmt.

Die Professur ist mit der Leitung des Arnold-Bergstraesser-Instituts (ABI) für kulturwissenschaftliche Forschung an der Albert-Ludwigs-Universität in Freiburg verbunden. Das ABI ist ein Kompetenzzentrum für Fragen des Globalen Südens, der Entwicklungsländer- und Entwicklungspolitikforschung. Dienstsitz ist das Arnold-Bergstraesser-Institut. Die verstärkte Digitalisierung der Industrie und weiter Bereiche des gesellschaftlichen Lebens wird von manchen Experten bereits als „vierte industrielle Revolution“ bezeichnet. Es ist zu erwarten, dass dieser Wandel, wie andere substanzielle industrielle Transformationen, weitreichende soziale und ökologische Auswirkungen haben wird. Vor dem Hintergrund gesellschaftlicher Herausforderungen, wie Klimawandel und Energiewende, wird das IASS ein Projekt zur Nachhaltigkeitsdimension der sogenannten “Industrie 4.0“ durchführen.

Die Organisationseinheit "Europäische und Internationale Zusammenarbeit" bietet Dienstleistungen bei der Planung, Umsetzung und Evaluierung der Vernetzung deutscher Akteure in Forschung, technologischer Entwicklung und Bildung im Europäischen Forschungsraum und weltweit an. Zielgruppen und Kooperationspartner sind dabei v.a. Bundes- und Landesministerien und deren nachgeordnete Einrichtungen, Hochschulen und außeruniversitäre Einrichtungen, Unternehmen und Wirtschaftsorganisationen sowie europäische Institutionen. Sie werden fachliche Aufgaben v.a. im Bereich der politischen Analyse und der Politikberatung zur internationalen Zusammenarbeit in Bildung und Forschung übernehmen.

Das interdisziplinäre Kolleg ist als Forschungszusammenhang von zwei Postdocs, bislang sieben Doktoranden/Doktorandinnen sowie vier Professoren/Professorinnen aus verschiedenen am Cluster beteiligten Disziplinen konzipiert. Die Nachwuchswissenschaftler/ Nachwuchswissenschaftlerinnen sind eng in die Forschungszusammenhänge des Exzellenzclusters „Kulturelle Grundlagen von Integration“ eingebunden und gleichzeitig in die Fachbereiche der ihnen zugeordneten Disziplinen integriert. Forschungsgegenstand:
Die globalen Machtverschiebungen stellen Europas Positionierung in der Welt grundsätz¬lich zur Diskussion. Fragen von Zusammenleben und Konflikt, soziokultureller Identifikation und Ausgrenzung sowie Herrschaft und Legitimation stehen im Zentrum der Forschungsarbeit am Kolleg. Die Projekte des Doktorandenkollegs können thematisch als Grenz- und Kontaktprojekte verstanden werden: Wie konstruiert und konstituiert sich Europa durch Beziehungen und Verflechtungen mit seinem Außen bzw. Gegenüber? Dabei setzen sie geläufige Vorstellungen von Europa in Bezug zu der sich verstärkt globalisierenden Welt und denken Europa von seinen (realen und imaginierten) Grenzen her. Die Forschungsprojekte des Kollegs leisten Beiträge zu den folgenden drei Themenbereichen: (1) "Konstruktionen von Ethnizität, Identität und Differenz", (2) "Souveränitätsregime" und (3) "Migration und Grenzen in Zeiten erhöhter Mobilität".

The appointee will have a PhD in the field of social sciences (preferably in social and cultural anthropology, but also political science or sociology) or in the field of area studies with a proven focus on social sciences. She or he will have excellent knowledge of qualitative research methods, especially ethnographic methods. The successful candidate will have substantial experience in field research focusing on transregional aspects. She or he will have knowledge of at least one non-European language. Experience in teaching internationally and excellent research activities are required as well as experience with acquiring funding for, and carrying out, sponsored research.

The appointee is expected to participate in the development of a research area in the field of Governance of Global Inequalities at the Center for Area Studies. She or he will be prepared to cooperate with colleagues of the Center’s respective research alliances. Furthermore, candidates will be prepared to participate in the teaching of bachelor’s and master’s courses, and, if necessary, in the respective doctoral programs as well as in the courses of the Center for Area Studies.

The successful candidate will have experience in university teaching and research (preferably internationally). Areas of research expertise should include, but are not limited to empirical environmental conflict research, comparative analysis of dynamics of violence and the causes of war, political science research on Africa (experience in field research). Candidates will also be familiar with socio-geographical theories (special theories), aspects of gender research, and qualitative methods of social sciences proven by field research. She or he will have experience with sponsored research and be proficient in English and French. Furthermore, publications in peer-reviewed journals are required.

The appointee will manage a Junior Research Group on the topic Global Change - local conflicts in sub-Saharan Africa. She or he will teach Political Science in the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs and work with colleagues on interdisciplinary research projects of Freie Universität Berlin.

Specific subject description
The Centre for European Research at the University of Gothenburg (CERGU) is a cross-disciplinary centre supported by the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Social Sciences and the School of Business, Economics and Law. CERGU was established in 1995, and the centre’s network-based structure allows our scholars to combine disciplinary depth with broad cross-disciplinary insights on European issues (see www.cergu.gu.se). This call for applications is part of CERGU’s international postdoc program, funded by the Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation (Riksbankens Jubileumsfond) 2013-2017. CERGU promotes cross-disciplinary research on a broad range of European issues, but there are certain thematic areas in which we currently have a stronger profile. These areas include Cultural Borders and Identity,Migration, Global Europe, Societal Challenges and Actors, and EU Institutions. These themes are described in more detail on the CERGU webpage. We encourage potential applicants to describe in their application to what extent their proposed project and merits may benefit from, or contribute to, the CERGU environment and our specific thematic areas. The researchers will be financed by CERGU (80%) but have a double affiliation as the employment and office location will be at one of the departments at the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Social Sciences, or the School of Business, Economics and Law. Job assignments
The appointees should independently conduct research and also participate in the planning and execution of the activities at CERGU. It is also expected that the appointees actively participate in CERGU activities, organise a conference or workshop, and regularly present their research at international conferences. Normally the postdoc position is combined with up to 20% teaching, however, this must first be agreed upon with the disciplinary department.

Eligibility
Doctoral degree in humanities or social science disciplines (including economics and law), or a set date for the thesis defence (no later than 31 December 2014). The degree must have been completed within the three years preceding the application deadline and applicants must not have previously been employed as a post-doctoral researcher.

Assessment
CERGU:s Steering Group will make the final decision about appointments in consultation with the relevant departments, based on assessments made by a working committee, the steering group members and potential external reviewers. In assessing candidates, particular attention will be given to scientific proficiency. As a basis for evaluating the qualifications of each applicant, both a project description of the research that is intended to be undertaken during the position, and previous research merits of relevance to the project, will be considered. At least one publication should be in English. It is important that the planned research project is such that it can be completed within two years. The project description should also include information on dissemination strategies. A list of top candidates will be selected by mid-June, interviews will be conducted late August and successful candidates will be notified by early September.

Job description
Project title: Higher education governance The two PhD projects should focus on an element of the broader research project Higher Education Governance. This is a so-called Odysseus project, funded by the Flemish Research Council for five years. The project is – broadly speaking – interested in how (multi-actor, multi-level) governance arrangements evolve in higher education, how this impacts on the higher education fabric in different higher education systems and how higher education institutions respond to and adapt to the emerging governance challenges (see www.chegg.ugent.be). The PhD students will initially be appointed for two years, with the possibility of an extension for another two years, if satisfactory progress is made in the first years. The PhD students will likely closely work together with each other and with other staff (postdoctoral researchers) on the Higher Education Governance project.

Profile of the candidate
We are looking for highly motivated individuals with an MSc (or equivalent degree) in the Social Sciences (preferably Sociology, Public Administration, Political Sciences or Educational Studies), with a strong interest in higher education research and/or governance issues.

• Research experience in these topics is an advantage.
• Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
• Candidates should be able to work independently and in a team.
• The applicants must be eligible for PhD studies and will enroll in the Doctoral School Programme of Ghent University. The candidates shall devote their time primarily to their own research studies.

The faculty of Political and Social Sciences has a vacancy for the Odysseus project Higher Education Governance (five-year Flemish Research Council project), starting from August 1, 2014. It concerns a full-time position (100%) as Postdoctoral Researcher for four years (initially two years, with the possibility to extend the contract for another two years on the basis of a satisfactory level of performance). Profile of the candidate

• candidates should hold a PhD degree in the Social Sciences (preferably Sociology, Public Administration, Political Sciences or Educational Studies) or a degree recognized as equivalent;

PROJECT‐E is currently looking for a young, motivated and skilled university graduate to fill the position of the “Country Representative”. The Country Representative is the direct extension of the PROJECT‐E Management Board in Europe, acting as the director of operations in the field. Under the oversight of PROJECT‐E Germany and in close cooperation with its local partner organization, the incumbent will be, among others, responsible for the following duties:

• Manage the project implementation in accordance with objectives and work plan, in close coordination with the local partner organization, Selam Children’s Village
• Facilitate and mediate the ongoing process of incorporating the department into the existing structures of Selam; cooperate with Selam´s management on shaping the future direction of the partnership; plan and organize work of the Department Management Committee.

The Department of Asian Studies seeks to appoint an outstanding candidate to a fixed term Teaching Fellow post to supplement teaching provisions on the undergraduate and postgraduate level in the field of East Asian relations and politics with a special focus on Japan and/or Korea. The department welcomes applications from candidates with demonstrable expertise in Japan or Korea or, ideally, Japanese-Korean relations and politics.

You will work under the direction of Professor of British Government and the Head of the School (Professor Kevin Theakston) to support, develop and collaborate on a number of his research projects in the field of parliamentary studies/British politics.

You will support existing research as well as conducting new primary research. You will have or be near completing a PhD; have expertise in parliamentary/legislative studies and in British politics; and knowledge and experience of quantitative social science research methods. Demonstrating evidence of an ability to produce published outputs of the highest quality, you will possess excellent communication skills and the ability to deal with a variety of tasks to set deadlines. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team is essential, along with strong organisational skills.

The School of Social Sciences and Philosophy is seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor in Chinese Studies, to commence on 1st September 2014. Applications are welcome from the subfields of either comparative politics or international relations. This position arises in conjunction with the establishment of a new M.Phil in Chinese Studies and a multidisciplinary taught Master’s programme within the Trinity Centre for Asian Studies.

We are particularly interested in a candidate who has conducted field research in the region, and who teaches and works on issues related to Chinese domestic politics, Chinese political economy and/or Chinese foreign and security policy.

The successful candidate will be based in the Department of Political Science and affiliated with the Trinity Centre for Asian Studies. The Department encourages applications from candidates who could, additionally, offer a course in quantitative or research methods. The post holder will be expected teach a range of modules at postgraduate level in the new M.Phil in Chinese Studies as well as some undergraduate modules.

The PhD Programme in International Studies, which is entirely in English, is characterized by a strong interdisciplinary approach that provides a solid grounding in the disciplines at the core of international studies (mainly economics, law, sociology, and politics) as well as specific training in the main discipline chosen for the PhD thesis. Thus, the Programme includes 300 hours of structured coursework (mainly first year) as well as periods for individual research abroad.

Applications are invited for a Teaching Fellow in European Public Policy and Politics. Candidates must have an excellent academic background and a PhD in Politics and/or International Relations. Postholders will take an active role in ensuring academic quality and standards in the School, curriculum development, and supervision of students and the use of technology in teaching. Candidates must have experience in areas of teaching that complement the programmes in the School.

The post is a ten-month post beginning September 1st 2014 and concluding June 30th 2015. Salary will be in the range £38,579 - £40,738 per annum pro rata inclusive of London Allowance.
