Das Europabüro der Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in Brüssel besetzt zum 1. Juni 2015 eine Stelle als Wissenschaftliche/r Referent/in für die Arbeitsfelder EU-Erweiterung und Nachbarschaftspolitik.

Die Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) ist eine unabhängige und gemeinnützige Stiftung, die den Ideen und Grundwerten der sozialen Demokratie und der Arbeiterbewegung verpflichtet ist. Das Europabüro der FES in Brüssel begleitet den europäischen Integrationsprozess, vermittelt die Interessen der Bundesrepublik Deutschland in Europa und arbeitet an der Gestaltung der Außenbeziehungen der Europäischen Union mit. Das europa- und weltweite Netzwerk der Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung ermöglicht den Dialog zu politischen, wirtschaftlichen, sozialen und ökologischen Fragen nicht nur zwischen Deutschland und Europa sowie innerhalb Europas, sondern auch zwischen Europa und der Welt. Die Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung – als Dialog-, Bildungs- und Beratungsagentur – wird damit ihrer besonderen Rolle als „politische Netzwerk-Organisation“ für und mit den verschiedenen europäischen Institutionen gerecht.

Aufgabenbereiche

• Planung, Durchführung und Evaluierung sowie Nachbetreuung von Dialog-, Informations- und Beratungsprogrammen sowie Bildungsmaßnahmen
• Verfassen von Kurzanalysen
• Berichterstattung über die Projektarbeit und die politische Entwicklung in der EU und den zu bearbeiteten Arbeitsfeldern und Regionen (südliche und östliche Nachbarschafts- sowie Erweiterungsländer)
• Kontakt- und Netzwerkpflege in den Europäischen Institutionen und der Think-Tank Community
• Begleitung von Besuchern und Delegationen

Voraussetzungen

• Hochschulabschluss in Wirtschafts- und/oder Sozialwissenschaften (M.A./Diplom)
• Analytische Fähigkeiten
• Fundierte Kenntnisse der Europäischen Institutionen und ihrer Geschichte
• Sehr gute Kenntnisse der ökonomischen, sozialen und politischen Entwicklungen in mindestens einem der beiden Kernarbeitsbereiche
• Solide Kenntnisse der deutschen Innen- und Außenpolitik
• Erfahrungen in Projekt- und Veranstaltungsmanagement/-design
• Kontakt-, Teamfähigkeit und Verhandlungsgeschick
• Sehr gute Deutsch- und Englischkenntnisse in Wort und Schrift
• Französischkenntnisse
• Gute Kenntnisse in einer der Schlüsselsprachen der zu bearbeitenden Regionen (Arabisch, Russisch, Polnisch, Serbo-Kroatisch, usw.) sind wünschenswert
• Berufserfahrung von mindestens 3 Jahren

Diese Stelle ist im Teilprojekt „Grenzen des Prozeduralismus? Experimentelle Untersuchungen zur Stabilität von Verfahren der Bedarfsbestimmung“ in der neu eingerichteten DFG-For­schergruppe „Bedarfsgerechtigkeit und Verteilungsproze­duren“ vorgesehen. Das Teilprojekt ist ortsverteilt und inter­disziplinär an den Universitäten Bremen (Politikwissenschaft: Tanja Pritzlaff-Scheele/Frank Nullmeier) und Hamburg (Philosophie: Thomas Schramme) angesiedelt. Die Aufgaben der an der Universität Bremen angesiedelten politikwissen­schaftlichen Stelle umfassen die Entwicklung theoretischer Modelle der Bedarfsbestimmung, Design und Durchführung von Experimenten (videogestützte Gruppenexperimente und chatbasierte Computerexperimente) sowie die quantitative und qualitative Auswertung der dabei anfallenden Daten. Die Tätigkeit ist in die übergeordnete DFG-Forschergruppe eingebunden. Diese besteht für drei Jahre mit der Möglichkeit der Verlängerung um weitere drei Jahre. Es besteht die Möglichkeit zur Promotion sowie zur Teilnahme an der Graduiertenausbildung der Universität Bremen.

Erforderliche Voraussetzungen sind 1. ein zur Promotion in Politikwissenschaft berechtigender Universitätsabschluss, 2. gute Kenntnisse qualitativer und quantitativer Methoden zur Datenauswertung und 3. gute Kenntnisse der philosophi­schen Debatte zur sozialen Gerechtigkeit. Erwünschte Voraussetzungen sind 1. Erfahrung mit interdisziplinärer Forschung und 2. Kenntnisse im Bereich der Programmie­rung von Experimenten (Visual Studio).

Sie unterstützen die Geschäftsführerin bei der Wahrnehmung ihrer Aufgaben durch:

• Aufbereitung aller Posteingänge zur Entscheidung
• Erstellung von Stellungnahmen und Analysen
• Verfassen von Redaktionsartikeln der Arbeitsgruppen und Unterstützung bei der Öffentlichkeitsarbeit
• Betreuung des Internetauftritts und der Kommunikation über soziale Netzwerke
• Koordination der Zusammenarbeit mit den Mitgliedsuniversitäten
• Inhaltliche Vorbereitung und Organisation von (auch internationalen) Veranstaltungen und Terminen

We are actively interested in candidates who have expertise in visual culture. Other key areas could include: socialist/post-socialist political culture; cultures of consumption; transnational networks and cultural exchange within and beyond the Balkans (including, e.g., Second-Third World exchanges, religious networks, EU integration).

The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree in an aspect of Southeast European cultural history or anthropology. They will have an emerging or established record of published original and high quality research and have demonstrable potential to maintain a strong research record through publication and active participation in international conferences. Must possess excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and have previous experience of successful teaching at university level and a demonstrable commitment to prioritising the student experience. It is essential to have excellent organisational and teamwork skills necessary to carry out the range of administrative tasks associated with teaching and research. A knowledge of one or more of the languages, cultures and societies of Southeast Europe and the SSEES region would be essential.

This is an exciting mathematical modelling research position to help “Evaluate the impact of early antiretroviral therapy and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention (TasP) among female sex workers in Benin, West Africa” funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation. This project is among a series of important demonstration projects designed to inform prevention policy to help control the HIV epidemic among key populations, and the wider population. The modelling project is part of a wider set of studies designed to evaluate the feasibility of TasP and PrEP through a set of indicators, including uptake, coverage, adherence, condom migration, occurrence of side effects and development of drug resistance, whereas mathematical modelling will be used to predict the potential impact of both interventions in the sex work milieu and the general population, based on the actual set of indicators observed. The study will be completed by an economic evaluation of the interventions and a cost-effectiveness analysis. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic international multi-disciplinary team of mathematical modellers, epidemiologists, economists, and policy makers.

You will conduct various analytic tasks required to develop and conduct detailed mathematical modeling analysis to represent the spread of HIV transmission and evaluate the impact of the HIV prevention interventions tested in the field. You will also work and communicate regularly with the team at Imperial College and at collaborative institutions.

The Edinburgh Law School is seeking to appoint three peace agreement research analysts to work with Professor Christine Bell on a Department For International Development (DFID)-funded research project: Political Settlements Research: Towards Open and Inclusive Settlements.

These full time positions are open to dynamic, committed and enthusiastic scholars who should hold a degree and Masters level qualification, with one being in law, political science or a cognate discipline. The peace agreement research analysts will work closely with Professor Bell on projects within the research programme in particular assisting with projects on inclusiveness and peace negotiations and agreements, and on measuring ‘success and failure’ of peace negotiation outcomes. The posts will be situated within the Global Justice Academy, of the University of Edinburgh, and the post-holders will be based in the School of Law. In particular, they will be involved in a large-scale data project relating to peace agreements, which will involve reading and ‘coding’ peace agreement provisions, and entering them into a web-based data programme, although there will also be opportunities for the research analysts to be involved in developing new strands of research.

You’ll produce regular political analysis and research papers, often in response to specific commissions, but also under your own initiative to inform policymaking and to establish a comprehensive archive of research material and organisational knowledge of this region. You’ll be equally comfortable advising senior colleagues in person, often at short notice. You can expect considerable liaison with a diverse range of stakeholders, which will involve regular travel to the region as well as international conferences in a range of locations to maintain and enhance your knowledge of the current agenda. Therefore the ability to engage with diverse audiences, build your professional network and represent FCO’s interests and objectives in the region will be essential.

The successful candidate will contribute to teaching in MSc Conflict Studies for which Professor Hughes is responsible in the Department of Government at the School (GV4A8, Nationalist Conflict, Political Violence and Terrorism), GV4G4 Comparative Conflict Analysis), and to further courses if required by the Department.

You will have an emerging record of teaching and research in conflict studies and you will have a completed a PhD in a relevant subject by 1st September 2015.

You will possess excellent written and oral communication skills and offer a commitment to high quality teaching and fostering a positive learning environment for students.

The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding research achievement or potential, and contribute enthusiastically to core and optional teaching units at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

S/he will have expertise in central areas of the disciplines of Politics/IR, and will develop a research profile that directly strengthens or suitably complements existing interests in the School. Expertise in the field of development studies/politics of development would be particularly welcomed.

Experience/potential in collaborative grant-funded research will be an advantage, as will the intellectual inclination to bridge across political and sociological issues and themes.

Applications are invited for a Teaching Associate in Ethics and World Politics in the Department of Politics and International Studies. The post is available from 01 October 2015 - 30 September 2016. The roleholder should have a proven specialist academic interest in Politics or International Relations and be qualified to PhD level in a related subject area.

The Department of Social and Political Science offers a range of taught programmes within the broad area of the Social Science, and now wishes to appoint a lecturer who can contribute to teaching on both the International Relations and Politics programmes.

You will hold a PhD or be nearing completion of a PhD, and should have a thorough knowledge of theory, and an ability to critically relate theory to policy and practice in International Relations.

A record of research and publication, or evidence of the potential to develop research and publication is essential. In addition, you will demonstrate the ability to complement existing social science teaching within the Department and be a good team player.

In addition to teaching experience, knowledge of both curriculum development and quality assurance procedures would be highly desirable, and you will be expected to play a full part in the Department’s philosophy to provide an excellent experience for students, and that includes having a visible presence.
