The successful candidate will work primarily on Africa south of the Sahara and in at least one
of GIGA’s four Research Programmes:

• RP 1 Legitimacy and Efficiency of Political Systems,
• RP 2 Violence and Security,
• RP 3 Socio-Economic Development in the Context of Globalisation,
• RP 4 Power, Norms and Governance in International Relations.

Your qualifications:

• A doctorate in a relevant academic discipline, preferably political science, political sociology
  or international law;
• ability to work in an interdisciplinary team;
• established track-record in attracting third-party funding in competitive procedures;
• excellent publications in one of the above mentioned fields;
• ability to engage in cross-area comparative and transregional studies, including an interest
  in other world regions than Africa.

Am Institut für Sozialwissenschaften der Universität Stuttgart, Abteilung für Internationale Beziehungen und Europäische Integration (Prof. Dr. Cathleen Kantner) ist voraussichtlich zum 15. Oktober 2015 die Stelle einer wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeiterin/ eines wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeiters (1/2 TVL 13) zu besetzen.

Das Aufgabengebiet umfasst die Mitarbeit in Forschung und Lehre (2 SWS) im Bereich der Abteilung sowie die Erstellung einer Dissertation in den Bereichen Internationale Beziehungen oder Europäische Integration. Die Stelle ist zunächst auf die Dauer von 3 Jahren befristet. Es besteht die Möglichkeit zur Verlängerung auf insgesamt 5 Jahre.

Anforderungsprofil:

• Ein überdurchschnittlich gut abgeschlossenes Studium (Master oder Diplom) der Politik- oder Sozialwissenschaften (die Abschlussnote sollte zum Einstellungszeitpunkt vorliegen; Zeugnis kann nachgereicht werden)
• Sehr gute Kenntnisse in den Bereichen Internationale Beziehungen und Europäische Integration
• Zusätzlich sehr gute Kenntnisse in einem der folgenden Bereiche: Politische Theorie und Ideengeschichte oder Methoden der empirischen Sozialforschung
• Kenntnisse in und Interesse an inhaltsanalytischen Methoden
• Sehr gute mündliche wie schriftliche Ausdrucksfähigkeit in Deutsch und Englisch
• Soft Skills: Selbstständigkeit und ein hohes Maß an Selbstorganisation, ausgeprägte Teamfähigkeit, kommunikative und organisatorische Kompetenz, hohe analytische Fähigkeiten

Gesucht wird ein/e fachlich einschlägig ausgewiesene/r Sozialwissenschaftler/ in mit einem Schwerpunkt in der Erforschung internationaler und transnationaler Beziehungen. Sie/Er trägt durch ihr/sein Profil zur Forschung des Instituts für Politikwissenschaft sowie in besonderer Weise zur Forschung des Instituts für Entwicklung und Frieden (INEF) bei und hier insbesondere im Forschungsfeld "Verantwortung und Kooperation in einer konfliktiven Weltgesellschaft", durch den das INEF u. a. am Käte Hamburger Kolleg "Politische Kulturen der Weltgesellschaft" (Centre for Global Cooperation Research) beteiligt ist. Darüber hinaus lehrt sie/ er in den einschlägigen Studiengängen der Fakultät für Gesellschaftswissenschaften, bei denen Fragen globaler und transnationaler Kooperation von Bedeutung sind, insbesondere im MA Internationale Beziehungen und Entwicklungspolitik, im MA Development and Governance sowie im BA Politikwissenschaft.
Vorausgesetzt werden eine theoretische Orientierung an Konzepten der Global Governance und der Weltgesellschaft, wobei Fragen lokaler wie kultureller Diversität einbezogen werden sollten. Es werden einschlägige Publikationen, Vertrautheit mit internationalen Diskussionszusammenhängen (z. B. mit einschlägigen Fachtagungen) sowie Lehrerfahrung erwartet.
Für Forschung und Lehre sind sehr gute Kenntnisse des Englischen in Wort und Schrift unab­ding­bar. Vorausgesetzt werden Deutschkenntnisse zum Zeitpunkt der Bewerbung. Es wird erwartet, dass innerhalb von drei Jahren ein Stand der Deutschkenntnisse erreicht wird, der das Angebot von Lehrveranstaltungen in deutscher Sprache sowie die Mitarbeit in der akademischen Selbstverwaltung ermöglicht. Die Universität stellt Ressourcen für den Spracherwerb zur Verfügung.

Die Bewerber/innen sollen im Bereich Internationale Politik durch international sichtbare Veröffentlichungen her­vor­ra­gend ausgewiesen sein. Voraussetzung für eine erfolgreiche Bewerbung ist zudem neben einschlägigen me­tho­di­schen Kenntnissen und der didaktischen Eignung die Fähigkeit, in den für die Professur relevanten Schwer­punk­ten der BA- und MA-Studiengänge sowie in der strukturierten Doktorandenausbildung der Berlin Graduate School for Social Sciences zu unterrichten.

The European Research Council Starting Grant Project “Diasporas and Contested Sovereignty” conducted at the Department of Politics and International Studies at the University of Warwick is seeking a post-doctoral research fellow for a 6-month full-time position (October 2015 - March 2016).

Main duties will be to assist the Project’s Principal Investigator, Dr Maria Koinova, with the preparation for the conduct of a large-scale migration survey in Europe to take place in 2016. Experience with survey research, preferably in the area of migration, excellent statistical, organizational and communication skills, and team-oriented working attitude are essential.

You will be based in the School of Geography, Politics and Sociology, at Newcastle University. You will join a Politics unit that is committed to achieving excellence in both research and teaching. You will be expected to secure research funding and achieve wider engagement and impact from your research. You will also contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and the supervision of research postgraduates.

You should have an excellent record of published research or outstanding research potential in any area of International Politics. You must also possess a good first degree and a PhD in an area of International Politics or a closely related discipline.

This fixed term, part-time post is designed to allow a postdoctoral student to develop teaching skills and experience, as well as to complete a programme of publications to advance their academic career. This post is open to postdoctoral students whose PhD was awarded (or will be awarded) between 1 August 2013 and 1 August 2015.

You must be able to teach on core first-year modules and other modules as required, as well as to supervise undergraduate dissertations.

This part-time post (65%FTE) is available from 1 September 2015 to 30 June 2016.

The School of Social Sciences is seeking to appoint a dynamic Senior Lecturer to contribute to the Politics and International Relations teaching and research program.

You will have an established reputation for research excellence in the Politics and International Relations field, significant knowledge of, and networks in, the Asia Pacific and a proven track record of external funding. You will be an excellent and inspiring teacher and will contribute to the ongoing development and delivery of the program's rapidly growing undergraduate International Relations major. You will have an ability both to lead and actively teach into the Master of International Relations, with a focus on innovative curriculum development involving internships and industry engagement in Australia and abroad.

Supervision of postgraduate research in this program as well as in Higher Degree Research Programs (MA and PhD) will also be expected. As the successful applicant, you will also be required to demonstrate a proven ability to coordinate the program's large and growing Master of International Relations degree.

The appointee will be a proven leader who will lead an inter-disciplinary, inter-agency team, and build the research capability and connections necessary to further develop the Centre, both nationally and internationally.

Iraq, ISIL and the wider area of Middle East and North Africa represent some of the most complex and volatile regions in the world in terms of security policy and planning. As a Research Analyst for this region you will play a vital role in developing an in depth knowledge of current and historical politics, culture and demographics and bringing this expertise to bear in the form of strategic analysis and policy analysis. You'll be expected to establish extensive networks and relationships with academics, think tanks and influencers to draw on a wide spectrum of current expertise and ensure we continually refine and adapt our approach to emerging issues. Your work will attract attention at a senior level within Whitehall, including government Ministers, and you should be confident in your ability to communicate well in writing and in person at this level.

We expect that you'll have post-graduate degree in a relevant subject area, such as Middle Eastern Studies, Arabic, history or politics and that you have strong research and analytical skills. Knowledge and practical experience of security policy issues are essential, and you'll need to demonstrate a considerable degree of expertise in the history, politics and current issues within the region. This role will suit an individual who can thrive in an autonomous role and who has the confidence and ambition to become a subject expert, able to advise, influence and challenge at a senior level.

This post is only open to British Citizens and Satisfactory Developed Vetting to a high degree is a condition of appointment. You must be a resident in the UK for at least two of the last ten years.

The post will contribute to ICSA's research projects on international non-proliferation issues, especially those concerning the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). The post holder will be responsible for the administration of ICSA's non-proliferation internship programme, and for managing the interns' training programme. In addition, the role will contribute to ICSA's overall open source intelligence (OSINT) research programme, including its work on international organised crime.

The job will be located at King's Strand Campus.
