The Institute for East and Southeast European Studies (IOS) in Regensburg (Germany) invites applications for the following open position in the Junior Research Group “Frozen and Unfrozen Conflicts”

The appointment will be for 3 years. Starting date is January 2016.

The Junior Research Group “Frozen and Unfrozen Conflicts” has been established in 2015 and will comprise five researchers. The research group will conduct comparative research on territorial conflicts and their backgrounds in Eastern and Southeastern Europe, especially in the area of the former Soviet Union and the former Yugoslavia. Thus the project will cover a wide range of current or recent frozen/unfrozen conflict areas from Eastern Ukraine to Georgia (Abkhazia and South Ossetia), Moldavia (Transnistria), Azerbaijan (Nagorno‐Karabakh) as well as Kosovo, Macedonia, Bosnia‐Herzegovina, Northern Cyprus and others. Methods of political science will take centre stage. Depending on the concrete research questions, additional approaches from social science and humanities will be employed as well, notably empirical methods. Innovative approaches will be encouraged. The central questions of the project are the following, to be approached from different angles:

1. Which resources, and under which conditions, are employed by local/regional elites for separatist projects?
2. What are the roles of the EU, the Russian Federation and other international players for the development of these conflicts?
3. What is the significance of historical, institutional and socio‐economic factors?

The work of the junior research group should also contribute to the three main research areas of IOS (governance, migration and trade, labour), but will add conflict research to the institute's existing research foci.

The tasks of the doctoral student/junior researcher are the following:

• Conducting an independent research project leading to a doctorate
• Contributing to the activities of the research group
• Presentation and publication of research results
• Organization and management of scientific events
• Participation in knowledge transfer measures

Requirements are:

• an excellent Master’s degree in Political Science, Sociology, Ethnology, (East/Southeast) European Studies or a cognate discipline
• excellent knowledge of English
• an innovative dissertation project in the area of “frozen and unfrozen conflicts”

Furthermore, we expect

• willingness for interdisciplinary cooperation and for comparative perspectives
• knowledge of a language of our research region; knowledge of German is an asset
• the ability to work in a team, strong communication skills, flexibility

The Hertie School is recruiting a junior scholar for a position in international affairs and security. International affairs and security are understood broadly to include a range of actors (states, non-state actors, and international organizations) and issues (traditional or non-traditional security threats, tensions or conflicts). Das Österreichische Studienzentrum für Frieden und Konfliktlösung (ÖSFK) sucht eine/n Projektkoordinator/in für das Kooperationsprogramm mit dem Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) in Accra, Ghana, für 24 Wochenstunden. Das betreffende Projekt versteht sich als Beitrag zu nachhaltigem Frieden und Sicherheit in der ECOWAS-Region und wird von der österreichischen Entwicklungszusammenarbeit unterstützt. Neben einer Forschungskomponente liegt der Schwerpunkt des Projektes bei der Kapazitätsentwicklung für den Bereich humanitäre Hilfe und zivil-militärische Koordination.

Der/die Projektkoordinator/in untersteht direkt der Direktion des ÖSFK und wird Teil des Teams der wissenschaftlichen MitarbeiterInnen sein.

Aufgaben und Rollen der Projektkoordinator/in

• Koordination aller Projektaspekte in Österreich und in Ghana.
• Ansprechpartner für KAIPTC, ADA, Österreichisches Bundesministerium für Europäische und Internationale Angelegenheiten (BMEIA), Bundesministerium für Landesverteidigung und Sport (BMLVS), sowie für sämtliche Kooperationspartner im Rahmen des Projekts.
• Management des Projektbudgets und der Auszahlung der Projektgelder an den Partner KAIPTC im Rahmen der geltenden Vereinbarungen.
• Planung, Bewerbung, Vorbereitung und Durchführung von Workshops zur Entwicklung von neuen Kurscurricula und Kursprogrammen und zur Evaluierung und Überarbeitung von Kurscurricula und Kursprogrammen.
• Organisatorische und inhaltliche Mitarbeit an der Entwicklung der Trainingsprogramme, Planung, Vorbereitung, Umsetzung und Evaluierung von themenspezifischen (Pilot)Kursen.
• Organisatorische und inhaltliche Mitarbeit an Forschungstätigkeiten im Rahmen des Projekts, Recherche- und Publikationstätigkeiten, inkl. Kooperation mit den Forschungsabteilungen des ÖSFK, KAIPTC sowie der österreichischen Landesverteidigungsakademie.
• Koordination der ÖSFK-Unterstützungsmaßnahmen für die Bibliothek des KAIPTC.
• Beteiligung am Aufbau einer Alumni-Datenbank für die neuen Themenbereiche.
• Berichtlegung über den Fortgang des Projekts (deutsch/englisch) an die ADA, Kooperationspartner sowie den ÖSFK-Vorstand, sowie regelmäßige Abstimmung mit ADA.
• Ausarbeitung und Verbreitung von "Lessons Learned" aus dem Kooperationsprojekt.
• Unterstützung der ÖSFK in projektnahen Bereichen.

Ihr Profil:
Erforderlich

• Abgeschlossenes Master- oder Diplomstudium in einer relevanten Studienrichtung (Politikwissenschaften, Peace and Security Studies, Environmental Management, Internationale Entwicklung, Philosophie, Afrikanistik, Kultur- und Sozialanthropologie u.ä.)

The successful candidate will contribute to the GIGA-based research of the "international diffusion and cooperation of authoritarian regimes – IDCAR network", funded by the Joint Initiative for Research and Innovation of the Leibniz Association, in the context of GIGA Research Programme "Legitimacy and Efficiency of Political Systems".

Zum 1. Januar 2016 – befristet bis zum 31. Dezember 2016 – ist die Stelle (25 Stunden pro Monat) einer studentischen Hilfskraft (SHK) im internationalen Forschungsprojekt "Intra- and Inter-Societal Sources of Instability in the Caucasus and EU Opportunities to Respond (ISSICEU)" (www.issiceu.eu) zu besetzen.

Im Rahmen des EU-geförderten Konsortiums beschäftigt sich das an der Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik angesiedelte Teilprojekt mit der Rolle der Türkei im Kaukasus. Schwerpunkte sind der türkische Einfluss im Kontext des georgisch-abchasischen Konflikts sowie die Bereiche Zivilgesellschaft, Sicherheits-/Militärpolitik und wirtschaftliche Beziehungen.

Zum Aufgabenbereich der studentischen Hilfskraft gehört u.a. die Unterstützung der ISSICEU-ProjektmitarbeiterInnen bei

Erwartet werden neben international sichtbaren, begutachteten Publikationen und der Ausgewiesenheit in sozialwissenschaftlichen empirischen Methoden insbesondere ein Fokus auf maritime Fragestellungen, wie die Bereitstellung und Kontrolle von sowie Konflikte um internationale öffentliche Güter, Meeresumweltschutz, internationale Rohstoff- und Handelspolitik, "maritime claims", Sicherung internationaler Handelsrouten, marine Raumplanung.

The successful candidate will be an expert in International Relations with specialist knowledge in Diplomacy and Security. Two full-time tenure-track positions in Political Science/International Relations

The Institut Barcelona d'Estudis Internacionals (IBEI) invites applications for two full-time tenure-track positions in Political Science/International Relations. We are particularly interested in recruiting someone with a special interest in the areas of international security, international development, and global governance, though all excellent candidates will be considered. The two positions are part of IBEI's ambition to raise its international research profile. Successful candidates are expected to start on September 15, 2016. A five-year contract will be offered. A performance review for tenure will normally be undertaken at the end of the fourth year, or potentially earlier for candidates who already have a strong publication record.

The Department wishes to appoint a Teaching Fellow in International Organisations and International Security to co-teach on 'International Organisations' course and to deliver seminar teaching on the ‘International Security’ course both of which are delivered in term two of the 2015/16 academic year to students enrolled in the Department’s Affiliate Programme and in UCL’s undergraduate programme European Social and Political Studies.

Responsibilities of the appointment also include first and an allocation of second marking of essays/exams, supervision of Masters’ dissertations and other usual duties of teaching administration.

This is a part-time seasonal appointment available from 1st January 2016 to 30th June 2016 in the first instance.

International Politics/International Relations is a well established part of the Politics and Contemporary History Subject Group at Salford. The group currently delivers five undergraduate degree programmes: International Relations and Politics; Politics; Contemporary History and Politics; International Politics and Security and Contemporary Military and International History. The successful candidate for this post will be expected to contribute to all our existing and future Politics programmes, teaching and carrying out related administrative duties. He or she will need to provide evidence of an established early career research profile, particularly in terms of developing a REF submission consisting of at least 3* outputs.
