Ihr Aufgabengebiet:

Der / die Bewerber(in) soll über erste Berufserfahrung verfügen. Erwartet wird ein überdurchschnittlicher, durch internationale Erfahrung angereicherter Hochschulabschluss, vorzugsweise in Politikwissenschaft / International Relations. Weiterhin werden gutes Allgemeinwissen, die Fähigkeit zu konzeptionellem Denken und zügigem Handeln, geistige Flexibilität, Teamfähigkeit und hohe Belastbarkeit vorausgesetzt. Sehr gute Englischkenntnisse in Wort und Schrift sowie sicherer Umgang mit Microsoft Office und das kompetente Management von Social Media- Formaten sind unverzichtbar. Zu Ihren Aufgaben gehören die Vorbereitung und Organisation der Bucerius Summer School on Global Governance, des Asian Forum on Global Governance und einer Europa- Konferenz zusammen mit dem verantwortlichen Programmleiter. Neben Assistenz- und administrativen Tätigkeiten zählen auch Recherche und inhaltliche Zuarbeit zu Ihren Aufgaben.

The Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology is one of the leading centres for research in social anthropology. Common to all research projects at the Max Planck Institute is the comparative analysis of social change; it is primarily in this domain that its researchers contribute to anthropological theory, though many programmes also have applied significance and political topicality. The Research Group “How ‘Terrorists’ Learn” at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology, led by Dr. Carolin Görzig, is offering 2 Postdoctoral positions starting 1 February 2018.

Currently, the research group investigates learning processes in the context of terrorism and addresses questions such as for example what and how terrorist groups learn from allies and competitors, how they learn from failures and successes or how they change their tactics and strategies when faced with counterterrorism.

In 2018 the research group shall take a next step and widen its agenda to include current challenges like radicalisation prevention in the context of integration and migration. Thereby, the group shall be composed of an interdisciplinary team of anthropologists and political scientists. For this purpose we are looking for two anthropologists who tackle topics for example like integration/migration and radicalisation (prevention); right-wing extremism and radicalisation, flight causes and terror experienced by refugees, integration and processes of learning, state and non-state terror. While this list is not exhaustive, applicants are encouraged to build clear connections to the group project in their
applications.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The postdocs will conduct research and field work. Additionally, the postdocs will build and maintain close contacts with the academic community in Europe and beyond. We are looking for research proposals that will generate data that can be used for comparison. The
applicants will be expected to share their data with other members of the team for joint analysis and publication.

Your Profile
Good field research skills, the ability to work in a team, and a good command of written and spoken English are required. Postdoctoral applicants should be in possession of a Ph.D. in social sciences (especially anthropology) or submit evidence indicating that the dissertation will be finished and submitted before the designated starting date.
German language expertise is not required but learning German is encouraged.

The Postdoctoral positions (TVöD E13) are offered until the end of the project (31.12.2020). The TVöD positions are open to scientists who have completed their doctorate. Ihre Aufgabenschwerpunkte:

• Sie tragen zu dem INEF-Forschungsbereich „Verantwortung im globalen Regieren“ durch eigene Publikationen sowie Konferenzpapiere bei und präsentieren Forschungsergebnisse in einschlägigen wissenschaftlichen und anwendungsorientierten Zusammenhängen.
• Sie beteiligen sich aktiv an Teambesprechungen und Forschungstreffen des INEF.
• Außerdem übernehmen Sie ausgewählte wissenschaftliche Dienstleistungen, insbesondere mit Bezug auf Publikationsreihen des Instituts.

Im Rahmen der Tätigkeit wird Gelegenheit zur wissenschaftlichen Weiterqualifikation geboten.

Ihr Profil:

• Sie verfügen über einen sehr guten oder guten Universitätsabschluss (MA oder vergleichbar), vorzugsweise im Feld der Politikwissenschaft oder Sozialwissenschaften.
• Sie haben sehr gute Kenntnisse der Global Governance-Forschung. Von besonderem Vorteil ist vertiefte Expertise zur Autorität privater und öffentlicher Akteure in transnationalen Governance-Arrangements und in Methoden der (qualitativen) empirischen Sozialforschung.
• Sie haben Erfahrung bei der Redaktion wissenschaftlicher Texte und in der Organisation von Veranstaltungen.
• Sie verfügen über hervorragende Kenntnisse der deutschen und sehr gute Kenntnisse der englischen Sprache und drücken sich hier sicher in Wort und Schrift aus.
• Sie verfügen über eine hohe Kommunikationsfähigkeit, können eigenverantwortlich arbeiten, behalten auch bei Termindruck die Übersicht und sind teamfähig.
• Interesse an wissenschaftlicher Weiterqualifikation wird vorausgesetzt.

Das Leibniz-Institut für Ost- und Südosteuropaforschung (IOS) erforscht die historische, wirtschaftliche und politische Entwicklung des östlichen sowie südöstlichen Europa. Zur Verstärkung seines Teams sucht das IOS zum nächstmöglichen Termin eine/einen wissenschaftliche/n Mitarbeiter/in (Postdoc) im Bereich der politikwissenschaftlichen Konfliktforschung (TVL-E 13, Vollzeit).
